REKA Pictures is specialized on the production and sale of independent Arthouse Film and documentary film. The idea of the union was to make films that carry truth, mystery, and poetry. The word REKA stands for the Bulgarian word for “river." The aim therefore is to produce films that are still in motion and do not linger in the prefabricated templates of filmmaking.

It was originally a collective consisting of director Eliza Petkova and producer Konstantin Kann. It was founded in 2018 while shooting their joint short feature film DIE ANDEREN (THE OTHERS), which premiered at the 52nd Hof International Film Festival. The idea of today's company logo, depicting a bird, is based on a scene from the short feature film at the time. In one scene, a bird flew into the frame as if by "magic" during filming. Both were studying at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin at the time.

Subsequently, REKA Pictures produced the feature film A FISH SWIMMING UPSIDE DOWN (GER, 103 min) by director Eliza Petkova, which premiered in 2020 at the 70th Berlinale in the Perspektive Deutsches Kino section and was sold internationally to many countries. Among other awards, it won "Best Director" award at Tirana International Film Festival (TIFF) one year later, in 2021.
Eliza Petkova's documentary MAYOR, SHEPHERD, WIDOW, DRAGON (GER/BG, 97 min), funded by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB) as a “Leuchtstoff,” is a co-production of REKA Pictures in association with Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) and Wood Water Films and enjoyed its world premiere at the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) in 2021 and its German premiere at the 43rd Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival (FFMOP) in 2022, where it was awarded the Film Critics' Prize and the title of "Best Documentary Film". Likewise, it received honorable mention in the documentary category at the 18th Achtung Berlin - New Berlin Film Award.
The collaborative short feature SOUNDS OF NATURE (GER, 15 min), which made its world premiere at the 40th Cambridge International Film Festival in late 2021 and its U.S. premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in 2022, is also the result of the former collective's collaboration.
